Continuing with the post I started in November of last year, I said at that time that the more I study and understand the nature of life and business, the more I become convinced that the “formula” for having an amazing life and a truly successful business is really quite simple: Totally release the past, let go of all attachments and judgments, forgive everyone for everything, including yourself, be grateful for everything, and focus only on being peaceful. Pretty simple, wouldn’t you agree?
But the problem is obvious: hardly any of us do any of those things. Wouldn’t you agree with that too? So let’s continue to dig into this a bit deeper so you can understand why this is a sure fire formula for happiness and success and why it seems so difficult to implement. Be grateful for everything
I hope this one is completely obvious but if not, consider the following. There are so many benefits to what I call cultivating an attitude of gratitude. First of all, it makes you a happy person when you focus on what you have to be grateful for. And being happy is a critical part of having an amazing life and a truly successful business. If you’re reading this, you have an enormous number of reasons to be grateful.
One billion people don’t have access each day to fresh water. 2.4 billion people don’t even have daily access to a toilet! Should I go on and on? If you have a house to live in, which many have lost in the last few years, a car to drive, a job, food in your frig and clothes to wear, you are one of the lucky ones. So how come you don’t go around all day with a big smile on your face? Here in the USA, a third of the population is on anti-depressants. There are more drugs and more anti-depressants sold in the USA then the rest of the world combined. It’s insane. We have so much but spend our time being disappointed or depressed that we don’t have more.
What’s worse, when you’re unhappy rather than being grateful, you just attract to you more events and circumstances to support you in being unhappy. You can read more about this in earlier posts but the short version is that there is no such thing as a neutral thought. Ever thought plants a seed in the creative soil of infinite possibilities and eventually produces a result. Unhappy thoughts produce unhappy results. Grateful thoughts produce gratitude producing results.
So, if you want to have an amazing life and a truly successful business, learn to spend the day in a state of gratitude. Be grateful for EVERYTHING: that you wake up in the morning, have a bed to sleep in and a house to live in, clothes to wear and food to eat, a car to drive, roads to take you where you want to go, a job to go to, people who you love and who love you, etc etc etc. And before you go to bed at night, put a gratitude journal beside your bed and spend the last 5 minutes of you day writing down all the things you have to be grateful for.
In conclusion, here’s what’s NOT to do that most people do to sabotage themselves: don’t think about what you want and then be disappointed that you don’t have it. The disappointment kills the seeds of thought. And by all means, don’t think about what you don’t want. That will just bring you more of what you don’t want. Just learn to be grateful for what you do have and let the rest take care of itself.
