Are you paying attention to which voice you're listening to?

The most fundamental distinction of the work we do at Enlightened Business Growth is that there are two very different conversations going on with us all the time. The first is the conversation of the ego. It is the voice of fear, worry, problems, concerns, unhappiness and more. The second is the conversation of your higher consciousness. It is the voice of hope, faith, trust, peace, possibility and more.

It’s really remarkable when you stop and realize for a moment that those two conversations are the ONLY ones we have to deal with. Life is far simpler than most people imagine. We arrive here with only the conversation of our higher consciousness and then life in this world allows the conversation of the ego to slowly but surely evolve.

The good news is that it’s pretty easy to tell which voice you’re listening to at any given time. If you’re really happy, have a big smile on your face, have confidence that everything is going to turn out just fine, you’re listening to the voice of your higher consciousness. Any other time, it’s the voice of the ego.

Here’s the really bad news: we’re so used to listening to the voice of the ego, we mostly don’t realize we’re doing so. We’re so used to having life be a struggle, worrying, being concerned, rushing, working hard, feeling stressed out and uncomfortable, we think that’s totally normal and natural.

In the world of the ego, it is. Just know that the ego has no interest in your happiness. The ego tells you that you will be happy, some day, when how your life is finally matches how you would like your life to be, knowing that will never happen. Two of its favorite conversations are “when…then” and “if only.” It’s a nasty game, but one we all seem to be too willing to play.

I assure you, you don’t want to live in that world. Nothing good ever comes from listening to the voice of the ego, nothing. And it’s your ego that just told you that there are times when it has your best interests at heart. Not true. It never has your best interests at heart.

So pay attention to how you’re feeling, all the time. When you’re happy and peaceful, notice what your internal conversation is. When you’re not happy and peaceful, notice what your internal conversation is. In the first instance, you’re listening to the voice of your higher consciousness. In the second, you’re listening to the voice of the ego. You won’t be able to consistently listen to the first until you hear all the things your ego says to you. Once you do that, you’ll be ready to turn down the volume on the voice of the ego and turn up the volume on the voice of happiness and peace.
